Friends of San Rafael Valley

A group of private citizens who live in and/or love this area of southern Arizona formed the non-profit Friends of San Rafael Valley (FoSRV) in 2023.

Working in partnership with Arizona State Parks and Trails, the FoSRV focuses on preserving and enhancing the San Rafael State Natural Area (SRSNA), known locally as the San Rafael State Park. The SRSNA encompasses a 25-acre National Historic District within 3557 acres of the San Rafael Short Grass Prairie Preserve.

The historic ranch structures within the SRSNA offer an important glimpse into the valley’s past. Established in the late 1800s by Colin Cameron, this operated as a working cattle ranch into the 1990s and has also been the site of many memorable western films, including Oklahoma, McLintock, Young Guns, The Young Riders, and Tom Horn.

As Arizona State Parks lacks funding to preserve the San Rafael National Historic District, the FoSRV board plans to initiate a capital campaign to raise funds.

There are many ways to get involved with Friends of San Rafael Valley. Attend one of our events, become a member, or join a committee. We’d love to have you on board!
