Tucson Bird Alliance’s Paton Center for Hummingbirds

As the temperatures rise, the Santa Cruz Valley offers places where water, shade, and wildlife come together in remarkable ways.

Just about an hour south of Tucson in the charming town of Patagonia, the Paton Center for Hummingbirds is one of those places—a cool, shaded space where pollinators thrive and visitors can slow down and take it all in.

Along the banks of the Sonoita Creek, this lush riparian area feels like a small pocket of calm, where the sounds of wings, water, and wind through the trees create a different rhythm and sound from the desert. With over 200 bird species recorded, it’s known for its incredible hummingbird activity, but you’ll also find butterflies, bees, and native plants supporting a vibrant ecosystem.

Open from dawn to dusk and free to visit, it’s a place to sit, watch, and connect.
