Per the Borderlands Nursery crew, the coralbean (Erythina flabelliformis) is one of their favorite plants in the nursery. It flowers brilliantly before it leafs out in the hottest/driest time of the year and produces hard, dark red poisonous seeds that need an overwhelming amount of scarification to germinate. The leaves come along in the monsoon season and are lush and wide, dropping in the fall and keeping the plant looking like a spindly pile of sticks most of the year. The most fun and unique flowers are always worth the wait.
